As a child, I was the
type who hoarded rocks, leaves, and pieces of
driftwood. Every summer, my family spent a couple
of weeks in Colorado. The mountains were ripe with
trophies to gather and admire.
As a college student,
geology was my favorite class. Although not the
scientific type, I was fascinated by the forces of
nature at play and by God’s hand in creation.
As an adult, I put
away childish things like rocks and creativity. I
pursued the study of theology, a career in ministry,
and growing a family. Summer excursions to the
mountains always reconnected me to my love of the
earth and it's wonders.
A couple of years
ago, I was given an Anglican rosary. I discovered
that I enjoy the focus that praying with prayer beads
can provide.
An overwhelming need
to be creative again spurred my desire to “play with
beads.” As I created my first Anglican Rosary, I
couldn’t bear the thought of it being lovely and
meant to be kept in a pouch or pocket. I love the
idea of wearing prayer; of wearing a tangible
reminder to be at prayer. So gracefull things
was born.
I will always love the
mountains. I still love gathering rocks. I love
the feel of stones in my hand. I love the search
and the stories behind the various elements
that become my little works. I love the
process of creation.
